References: Provenance: the collection of Peter Desborough, illustrated in an article by him 'Fine Brass for Collectors' (p143) in the March 1939 edition of 'The Connoisseur' where he says: '.. though the shape of the cups may suggest a date in the late 17th century, the shape of their stems has a clear affinity with candlesticks of the first quarter of the 18th century.
