Moorabool is pleased to announce their 2019 Annual Exhibition will be held on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5th.
This event takes place in the upstairs gallery of their premises, at 16 Ryrie Street, Geelong.
Opening time is 11am, closing 6pm.
Usual business hours for the following week – note: closed Sundays.
This annual event showcases the special pieces collected over the previous year, mostly showing for the first time. This year, we were fortunate in purchasing the collection of a prominent Melbourne collector, who ‘had the eye’, meaning he collected choice, superb items of mostly Pottery & Porcelain, almost all English and dating c. 1780-1840.
As John Rosenberg puts it , it was ” ….like an English buying trip, but all together in one place – Melbourne! ”
This fascinating selection includes all the major Porcelain makers such as Wedgwood, Spode, Minton, Coalport – and a number of superb rarities such as Swansea. While Pottery is often harder to categorize – a lot more makers are involved – there are a large number of very unusual makers represented. What has been exceptionally interesting is the identification of ‘fresh’ patterns & shapes not yet recorded in the literature. We have such a large number of some types that connections have been made, via shared shapes, handles, and patterns. When combined, it allows brand-new attributions to be provided for previously anonymous pieces. Exciting times!
Here are some highlights for the upcoming event:
An estimated 600 pieces will be uploaded for this exhibition, so check back over the next few weeks to see more.
