$850.00 AUD
Albert Hanson (1866-1914)
Cows in a Farmyard, Australia
signed & dated 1902
43x29cm
Minor signs of age, displays very well – unframed
This watercolour is typical of Albert Hanson’s mature style. He spent a to of time in England, and some of his works show English scenes. Is this one?
The haystacks and the cows could both be encountered in Australia as well as England. The fields and trees are not distinctly either country.
The barn has a dark roof – slates or shingles? impossible to tell. The side addition is clearly corrugated iron – used in Australia extensively, but also possible in rural England in 1902.
To settle on a location, the date is the best indication: Albert Hanson visited London on an extended trip, 1892-96. 1902 was therefore a year he was painting Australian scenes.
