Rare original guache design for a tapestry, with central panel of rooster & hen.

18th/19th century

65cm – chair seat size

Condition: unframed, signs of age, backed onto acid-free card.

These interesting patterns were in the massive archives of the factory, dispersed in London in the 1990’s. They were cut into strips as part of the method of hand-weaving the design in wool on a loom.






This design was used by the weavers at Aubusson, and part of the process of weaving required them to be cut into strips, like this one. The archives were sold off in the late 1990's in London.
