Chinese Swatow ware kendi with four small lug handles & central spout, painted underglaze with a dragon and clouds. Unmarked, 17th century
Provenance: from an Indonesian origin, collected in the 1980's from locals. These wares were keenly sought after trade goods in South-East Asia, and while we know them as Swatow ware after the port they were exported from, excavations have revealed the kiln sites at Zhangzhou. ref.
