References

Provenance: from an old Australian collection, early 20th century; with original inventory no. on back. A shabti (also spelt ushabti) figure represents a worker: placed in a special box in the tomb, he would spring to life in the next world and do all the work, leaving the owner to relax. In his hands he holds the hoe, to till the soil, and the flail, to harvest the grain.
