English Pewter 1/2 Pint measure, the atraight sided form with engraved ‘DI’ initials, the base with glass bottom.

The glass bottom was said to be a way of avoiding being press-ganged into the Navy; when drinking at the pub, if a coin could be slipped into a drink unseen, the ‘drinker’ could find himself in the Navy as he had taken the King’s payment; the glass bottom allows the contents to be seen , and press-ganging avoided!
