English replacement plate for a Chinese service, arms of Cullen, attr. Miles Mason c.1805

$780.00 AUD

English porcelain plate, probably a replacement for a Chinese Export service, bearing an armorial to the centre of a blue shield with two boars heads and knight helm, surmounted by a pelican feeding its young, titled above ‘NON SIBI’ (not for oneself), the arms of Cullen, of Laughs, Scotland, within a gilt rope border, the rim with a wide panel of bambo & ribbon supporting flower sprigs, including a bunch of grapes.
Attributed to Miles Mason, c.1805

23cm

Good condition, very minor wear only, the back with areas of kiln speckling.

Attribution: Direct comparison with known Miles Mason reveals a likeness in the porcelain body, a type of hybrid hard-paste; a contemporary advert declares he can “……renew or match the impaired or broken services of the nobility and gentry…”
