Colonial made cameo brooch, the carved shell profile of ‘Dianna the Huntress’, her quiver of arrows behind, set in a simple gold mount, with safety chain & pin.

Hallmarked with disk & wing for A. J. Long & Co, (288 Little Collins St)

also ‘9’ for 9 carat, and wheat sheaf to show Long was a member of the Manufacturing Jeweller’s association of Victoria.

Condition: good antique condition with a few marks, several dark spots in the shell to the cameo, displays well.

 

Long & Co was a general importer & ironmonger, appearing in the late 1850’s, but concentrating on jewellery later in the century. Little information is available, but they applied for membership of the “Manufacturing Jeweller’s association of Victoria” in 1914, and remained members into the 1940’s.
