Spectacular pair of Copeland & Garrett lidded urns, with ‘Greek’ pattern, twin-handled bulbous bodies with classical figures interspaced with curious symbols, the foot and flarred rim with bands of Classical decoration, all with raised white & red enamels on a salmon tone ground, the flat lid similar, the knop & handles ‘bronzed’.

printed marks ‘Copeland & Garrett’ with crown, also ‘Copeland’,
datable to 1847.

One with crack to body midway towards foot, small area associated touched-up, otherwise excellent

These urns have several printed marks on these pieces, with the earlier ‘Copeland & Garrett’ with crown indicating the earlier partnership of 1833-47, and plain ‘Copeland’ used 1847-67. It is apparent then that their creation took place during the changeover year of 1847 or very shortly after.
