Rare pair of Chinese porcelain candlestick figures, each modelled as a maiden holding a red vase-shaped candle sconce, a seated child at her side holding a turquoise parrot, their clothing coloured in green & red ground with with gilt flowers, her coat with famille rose flowerheads and a fine collar of peacock feathers, the whole set on a, octagonal slab base coloured in turquoise with red edge.

Qianglong, circa 1780

 

A very unusual format, with a child and a parrot to the side in a place where other examples show a single animal, such as a bird or a deer. 

 

 

Condition

some small areas of restoration, including: hairpiece, candle sconce, bird beak on one figure
