Rare Staffordshire pottery rooster vessel, modelled as a standing bantam with scroll of foliage supporting the body, on a earth toned plinth base, his head and neck opening to body cavity, decorated realistically in enamels.

some loss to paint, particularly black which has mis-fired in the kiln, the comb has had some restoration to back segment, a few minor flaws to body, displays well.

There are a series of these standing models, beginning in the early 19th century and made by various unknown makers. The scroll support on this example lacks the front lobe found on examples traditionally dated slightly earlier, and may have been ‘lost’ in the copying process.
