Staffordshire figure of Romeo & Juliete, by T. Parr, c.1870

$460.00 AUD

Staffordshire figure of Romeo & Juliet, embracing on a grassy mound bearing the inscription:

“Jul: Oh thinkst thou we shall ever meet again?
Rom: I doubt it not and all those vows that shall serve for sweet discourse for times to come”

Probably Tohmas Parr,
circa 1870

Small losses to enamels,
Rwf. Oliver “The Victorian Staffordshire figure” p143 for an example ‘probably by Thomas Parr c.1870’.
The actors depicted here are probably the American Cushman Sisters, Susan and Charlotte, who plays Romeo as a ‘trouser-role’, dressed as a man!
