Remarkable silver-mounted casket, the simple oak form with elaborate silver corner mounts and hinged handle to the lid, the front with an elaborate lock plate, the interior tinned as a tea caddy.

The mounts probably re-used 17th century originals
The whole put together circa 1845.

Early note declaring: ‘Tea caddy (Silver mounted) – Wood from the house of Prince Rupert’s Cottage’
Trading card: ‘Antique silver mounted oak casket tea caddy by John Wakelyn, c.1745’
Calling card: ‘Mrs W.G.Hamilton, 38 Wood Lane, Highgate, London, N.6 – inscribed ‘With Love from your Father and Mother, Christmas 1938’
