The Everist Claret,

by Edward Fischer, in conjunction with John Hammerton, Geelong 1872

The claret jug with an egg shape body and tall neck, the handle formed as a lifelike snake biting the base of the flared spout, with engraved scrollwork beneath the lip and petal lobes to the foot,  a collar of fern leaves applied to the shoulder & handle terminal, either side set with a roundel embossed with builders tools to one side, surveyors tools the other, the front with the inscription;

by the

on his retiring from Office

after 22 years faithful service

January, 1872”

Body unmarked, the embossed roundels with small ‘J.H.’ initials for John Hammerton,

otherwise by Edward Fischer, circa 1871.
