Iron arrowhead, long thin bodkin point, Thames River London, 12th-13th century AD
$165.00 AUD
Well crafted Iron arrowhead, probably English, of elegant bodkin point type with small bulge at top of stem.
ex- Thames Foreshore,
12th-13th century
4.25cm w/stand 11cm
Excellent condition with signs of age, modern stand.
Provenance: purchased London 1990’s, from the Thames foreshore mudlarkers.
This bodkin-type of very solid narrow arrowhead was specifically developed to penetrate chain mail armour. It was a Thames foreshore find, which accounts for the very good condition: the mud is so thick the oxygen that is responsible for oxidation (rust) has been kept away. It is probably of English manufacture.
