Bisque figure of a boy with a rabbit & house, C. 1835

$580.00 AUD

Rare English bisque figure of a boy, shown kneeling by a dolls house with a small rabbit at the open door, holding a larger rabbit by the ears, on an elaborate solid rococo scroll base.
Possibly Rockingham, or Samuel Alcock,
Circa 1835

12.5 cm high
Condition: neck re-stuck, minor losses

The base bears a resemblance to Rockingham bases, ref. Rice – ROCKINGHAM- pl 165.

Samuel Alcock is another distinct possibility. The boy is identical to another example in Moorabool’s stock, a boy with mice & a house, except for a group of enamelled & glazed flowers scattered on the base – a Minton feature. This supports the Alcock possibility, as he is often found imitating Minton in a slightly more naive manner. Ref David Battie’s ‘British Porcelain’ p41 for Alcock bisque figures with these flowers.
