Blue jasper plaque, Neptune & hippocampi, 18th/19th century
$680.00 AUD
Unusual blue jasper oval plaque, the sprigged decoration depicting Neptune & his hippocampi (sea horses), a trident in his hands, a cherub blowing a conch in the background.
Unmarked, possible faint ‘V’,
18th-19th century
firing flaws
10x16cm
The faults suggest this is an ‘experimental’ piece, and may be Continental in origin.
There is a similar type illustrated in Guillebon ‘Paris Porcelain’ 1995 , p174, with a vase with similar blue and similar decoration being Nast, circa 1795.
