Bronze harness fitting, Northern European ‘Viking’, 8th – 10th century

Sold

Bronze harness fitting with three ‘ducks feet’ fittings hanging from a tubular fitting.
Northern European, so-called ‘Viking’ culture of the Baltic,
Circa 8th – 10th century AD

4cm long, 2cm wide
total 10cm high on mount

This well-made ‘lost wax’ bronze casting would have been a part of a number spaced along the bridle fittings of a warrior’s horse. With movement, they ring with a melodic tone, and the horse in movement would have created an intimidating racket!
