References | ref. Roussel- Castleford Pottery- pl 66 for a plain white form with different scene (very similar cottage with smoking chimney)p33 for a discussion of forms. She states -It is likely that some moulds for applied relief designs were made on the premises at Castleford since many of the designs are unique to the factory. This jug is in fact made in a 2-piece mould, the join being quite evident. The apparent engine turning to the base is also moulded off an original engine turned master.Roussel also states- landscape painted stoneware pieces made at Castleford do not appear to have survived- making this example most interesting. |
