Chamberlain’s Worcester armorial plate, the rims painted with a broad band of flowers & leaves in soft grey and gold with red outlines, the center with a lions head armorial and belt containing the motto PARATUS SUM.

The crest and motto “Paratus Sum” is for John Fairlie (1799-1885), 2nd son of William Fairlie (1754-1825) of Bruntsfield, Edinburgh. John was born in Calcutta and was described as “a Dandy and man about town” – as shown in a sketch of him by the Count D’Orsay held in the National Portrait Gallery, London.
