Chelsea-Derby cup & saucer, bird-in-branches & pinecone moulded, c. 1775
Rare Chelsea-Derby cup & saucer, the cup moulded in high relief with two birds perched on a flowering prunus branch to one side, a birdless flowering branch the other, the saucer with an overlapping ‘pinecone’ (or sunflower?) moulded ground, the rims with a narrow deep blue enamel band bearing a gilt vetruvian scroll pattern, a small gilt flowerhead placed off centre inside the cup to disguise a thick glaze globule.
Gild ‘Anchor & D’ mark,
saucer 13cm wide, cup 7.5cm wide
Some wear to goldrims, chip to outer rim of saucer, otherwise good.
