Rare Chelsea porcelain sweetmeat dish, of silver-shape with no foot rim, moulded with high-relief rococo scrollwork reserving 3 panels painted with flower groups, another colourful group to the centre, a brown line to the rim.
Unmarked, Red Anchor period, circa 1755
Condition: restored crack with well-done overpainting along one side & base; multiple original factory firing flaws & kiln dirt; probable rim wear & chips covered over. Displays very well.
ref. Gardiner Collection, Toronto, G91.1.8.1 for an identical pair, another in the Met NY, a;; called ‘sweetmeat dishes’ – although rather larger than the normal.
