Chinese export pierced plate, C. 1750

Rare Chinese export plate with pierced rim and unusual overlapping leaf edge, painted in Europe to the center with a series of plants in iron red reserves, on an iron red ground of unusual receding square cells with subtle Chinese figures in gold, the rim with the frets outlined, with three large flowerheads in reserve, one covering a ground-out armorial device.

This interesting piece has been an order from China for a European family, but has either been rejected or not claimed; a European decorator has then ground off the armorials and re-decorated the entire piece, circa 1750.
