Chinese Export salad bowl, of rounded lobed square form after a European style, painted with a small cat to one side representing the Arms of Mackintosh, within a wise colourful scrolling foliage and flower wreath border with rich gilding, the opposite side with the initials ‘J G’.
Circa 1780
24cm wide, 13cm high
Some glaze loss to rim with restored gold covering, enamels good and no other damage.

The Mackintosh clan was a fierce Scottish clan, and earnt its cryptic motto ‘touch not the cat but aglove’ !
