Large Chinese Export blue & white tureen, in the Meissen style with Baroque mask handles terminating in high feather headdress handles, the body painted with large exotic birds in fenced gardens within river landscapes, the lid painted with scrolling reserves and scattered foliage around a scroll knop.
Circa 1745

35cm wide, 24cm high
lid with overpainting, otherwise good condition

The form, and in particular the feathered-head face handles, imitate European shapes, in particular the flamboyant Baroque services of Meissen in the 1730’s/ 40’s.
