Delightful Chinese Trade Figure of a wizen old fisherman, superbly modelled in painted clay, dressed in traditional clothing including straw cloak and hat, a rod & fish in his hands, mounted on a green square plinth.

Condition: fair, some loss to straw & restoration to hat straw, signs of age throughout, stable & displays well.

Provenance: from an old Australian collection, probably since ‘new’ 170 years ago.

Figures like this were a popular souvenir for travellers passing through the Chinese ports. This example came from a family with Chinese items said to have been brought out with them in the mid-19th century.
