Chinese Lapus + Silver ring with two dragons, c. 1940
$795.00 AUD
Stunning Chinese Silver ring, with broad finely retailed raised decoration including a dragon amongst moulds and flowerheads, either side of a teardrop shaped lapis lazuli stone, the back segment split to allow easy resizing.
Hallmarked inside ‘CHINA’ and ‘SILVER’,
circa 1940
Stone 17x12mm; ring aprox 18mm inside measurement,
Provenance: purchased in Singapore and luckily posted right away to Australia in 1940; in a box with a note recording this. The soldier in the Australian Army who posted it to his wife was captured in the Fall of Singapore shortly after, and spent the war years in Changi prison as a prisoner-of-war.
The ‘Silver’ would most probably be .900 grade.
