References | The roses on this cup & saucer show the influence of William Billingsley, who is documented as appearing at the Coalport factory towards the end of his life. Perhaps he was able to teach Coalport artists, or some of his work from Swansea & Nantgarw may have been available as samples for the Coalport artists to copy. This would explain the close association between this painting style and Welsh pieces. An alternate explanation would be that this was a Coalport blank, decorated in a London workshop such as the one run by Simms. |
