Colonial Watercolour – India landscape with ox cart, circa 1835
$365.00 AUD
Interesting Indian Colonial watercolour, depicting a mountainous landscape with a traditional ox card in the foreground, the whole with a curious ‘sparkle’ effect achieved with a surface layer of ground glass (?).
Unsigned,
circa 1835
frame 47x38cm, work 34x24cm
The ‘sparkle’ effect – impossible to photograph as you need movement to make it obvious – has been seen at Moorabool on a lithograph of a ship, circa 1835, and a portrait, dated 1834; it seems to have been a trend around that period. The Giff of the close-up face shows a little of the effect.
