Rare Daunian (North Apulian) Greek geometric style pottery vessel of large size, the pear-shaped body flattened at bottom with flared neck and thin flat lip, twin strap handles with peaks to either side, an antelope head protruding to either side, the whole decorated with broad bands and swags of iron oxide pigment.

Circa 525-475 BC

Condition: minor surface scratching, small losses to antelopes
35cm high, 32cm wide

Provenance: from the collection of a Brisbane Australia doctor, active in London between the Wars and brought back shortly after.

A rare large size with unusually detailed animal heads.
