Early Derby figure of ‘Summer’, from the ‘Four Infant Seasons’ series, modelled as a boy seated on a stump, grasping a large wheat sheaf including colourful flowers, a garland in his hair, scattered flowers on the mound base, a sickle in his hand, the whole painted in a muted colour palette.

Condition: sickle replaced, small flaws, displays very well.

ref. Bradshaw p118 0 ‘E75′ The Four Infant Seasons’, 1759-69 period, also made into the 1770’s-90’s, where they appear on scroll moulded bases and in bright colours. These earlier examples are much rarer.
