Sold

Handsome Derby serving dish, the rectangular form painted with a stone table-top bearing a large flower group, including dog roses, poppies, and honeysuckle, surrounded by scattered insects and a scrolling gilt border, the rim with similar flower groups & insects.
Red crown & batons mark, also ’55’ painters mark,
circa 1820

27.5×21.5cm
crazing evident, some staining to the back

The decoration is unusually fine, the style and technique showing the influence of William Billingsley – but unfortunately ‘painter 55’ is unknown.
