Dimmock & Co white earthenware plate, printed in blue with ‘Isola Bella’ pattern, depicting a from ‘Select Sketches’ by showing a boat passing an elaborate castle, within a rococo style scroll & cell border.
Large printed cartouche & flowers mark, inscribed ‘Select Sketches / Isola Bella’, with ‘Stoneware /D’ beneath,
also impressed ‘Staffordshire Knot’ mark, for Thomas Dimmock & Co,
active 1828-59 at Hanley, Staffordshire.

Condition: good condition, small area of crazing to base on front
This interesting plate is not, as the mark suggests, ‘Stoneware’, but a fine white earthenware typical of Staffordshire at this period.
The source of the print has been traced to “Heath’s Illustrated Annual for 1832″, where the scene illustrates the ‘Isola Bella’, or ‘Beautiful Island’ on Lake Maggoire ( Italy).
