Dr Wall Worcester saucer-dish, powder blue with flowers, gilding, c. 1768
Superb Dr Wall Worcester saucer-dish, well painted with fan shaped & circular panels reserved on a powder blue ground, containing fine swags of flowerheads including roses & poppies, simply framed with gold line borders sprouting various flamboyant foliage & flower sprays in thick honey gilding.
ref. Zorensky Collection #338 for an example with identical flamboyant flowers & honey gilding, a milk jug dated 1768.
A ‘Saucer-dish’ was included in a service at this date as a cake plate. It was like a saucer, but made dish size – hence the name.
