Early Staffordshire figure, ‘Sacrifice’, circa 1800
Sold
Staffordshire Pottery figure of ‘Sacrifice’, depicted as a standing classical figure by an altar bearing a goat, in the process of stabbing it with a dagger, with blood emerging and pooling in a basin at his feet, the whole with black, red and turquoise details, set on a square plinth base.
Circa 1810
23cm
Neck shows over painting so probably restored, the knife and horns restored, extended arm showing signs of being re-stuck
Derby created a pair of porcelain figures titled “Sacrifice”, and Moorabool has recently identified the partner piece, a lady with a dove, in porcelain – presumably there was a similar pair to this Staffordshire Pottery version.
