References | A replacement piece for a Chinese Export service of the 1750’s, which we have attributed to Thomas Wolfe & Co, Big Works, Stoke on Trent. There was a part service bearing these arms sold in Sotheby's , NY, later 20th century, part of which was Chinese Export and part replacements by an unknown English maker. The Rosenberg Collection (housed at Moorabool Antiques, Geelong) has a Chinese-style blue & white plate of the same body & construction details, confirmed as Wolf, on which the attribution of this piece is based. A contemporary newspaper advert Thomas Wolfe placed reads: "Table and desert services etc. enamelled with coats of arms, crests, or cyphers, in the neatest manner." (Advert placed by Thomas Wolfe & Co, Staffordshire, 5th March 1792) |
