English enamel card tray, trompe l’oeil of cards, guineas and £100 bank note, c. 1770
Rare English enamel card tray, the lobed walls with pierced gallery, the pale blue ground with scattered flowers, painted to the center with a large trompe l’oeil scene of cards, golden guineas, and a bank note for £100. Attributed to Bilston, Circa 1770
restored, decoration good
An identical tray with white ground colour was sold Christies NY, 24Jan 2001 lot 426, described as Bilston c.1770.Alongside we're two turquoise smaller trays, with the same piercing, suggesting that they may have come in many colour variations as harlequin sets.
