English pottery jug, printed & painted in enamels with Union pattern & scrolls, c. 1825

Sold

English pottery jug, the globular form on spreading foot, printed & painted in enamels with a scrolling foliage on blue ground, one panel supporting a Union pattern of Rose, Shamrock, and Thistle.
Unmarked,
circa 1825

11.2cm ht.
some overpainting hiding a crack (?)

Attribution is tricky – pattern comes from the components of the pattern appearing in full on a marked Baggerly & Ball jug (TCC #13541) which is known as the ‘Boy in the Window’ – but in this case, they have cut away the scenic panels of the print and just used the background! Multiple other makers used almost an identical pattern….
In Christmas’s March 2010 attribution list (TCC) this pattern appears to conform to
type IV front panels – attributed to Sunderland.
