English sprigged mug, farmer, cherubs, children, att. Turner, c.1800
$395.00 AUD
Interesting English pottery mug with sprigged decoration, the olive green body sprigged with three large groups – a farmer, children playing, and cherubs with hourglass – beneath a fruiting vine border, the whole picked out in enamels.
Unmarked,
possibly Turner,
circa 1800
9.2cm high
Very good condition
The same ‘fruiting vine’ was used by Turner c. 1790, but moulds were sold-on and copied, so cannot be definite in attribution. The piece is certainly a quality, and early, production.
ref. Edwards & Hampson p199 for the sprig
