The Mosasaur was a species of large marine reptile, breathing air & used its long tail for propulsion. They probably relied on ambush predation, much like a crocodile, and they are known to have eaten ammonites – the shells of which sometimes show the distinct line of a Mosasaur’s teeth puncturing through as the result of a savage bite. They were the dominant predator of the Cretaceous seas, ranging in size from a few meters to around 15 meters.
The ancient seabed gravels of Morocco are a place where they have been well preserved, complete with enamel surfaces, often still lustrous after 66+ million years. Some examples have bone still remaining.
