Hammersmith 1785; to London 1755; Royal Academician, Foundation RA 1768; exhibited RA 1769-79; trained in Florence by Hugford; acquainted with Chambers and Wilton in Rome in early 1750s; joined Wilton as instructor at Duke of Richmond's short-lived Academy 1758; his friend Bartolozzi engraved many of his works; taught J.H. Mortimer; collaborated with Barret, Mortimer and others.
