Victorian gilt brass tazza, with broad openwork rim of scrolling foliage, the centre with reverse-painted scenic panel with foil backing, titled ‘HAMPTON COURT’, on short column and tripod scroll foot.
Mid 19th century
18cm wide, 8cm high
Good condition, glass panel is fine, small signs of age throughout, surface is good, displays well.
While this piece may look purely decorative, it had a place & purpose in Victorian life; it was placed in the hallway (on the hall table) to take the ‘calling cards’ of visitors.
