Handsome WMF Art Nouveau Jugendstil copper & brass egg coddler, c.1905
Stylish WMF Jugendstil ‘egg coddler’, in copper and brass, with egg shaped copper body opening to reveal tinned liner with 6-egg holder, supported on brass tripod legs with leaf form terminals, a dish to the base with a small spirit warmer for the eggs above, the lid with a cast ‘cross’ decoration supporting a finely turned ebony knop.

for Würtemburgische Metallwaren Fabrik ,
‘Jugendstil’ – literally ‘Youth Style’ – started in Austria/Germany immediately after Art Nouveau appears in France, borrowing heavily on that organic form but further enhancing it with more formal geometric elements.
