Irish Sterling Silver teaspoon, of ‘Old English’ shape, with family crest to the handle of a Griffin’s head.

Hallmarked for Dublin 1857,

‘JS’ for maker John Smyth

Condition: good with signs of use + age, hallmarks clear

This crest indicates the spoon would have been used by Sir Barnes Peacock (1810-1890). He was a solicitor & judge, spending his career in India where he was high in the Judicial system, serving as the first Chief Justice in Calcutta, and on his return to England in 1870, he joined the Privy Council.
