James Ferries was born in South Australia in 1875, and after attending the South Australian School of Art, travelled to England where he was a student at the Slate School of Fine Art, University of London. Returning to Australia, he became established as a fine artist, producing landscapes, flower studies, and sensitive images of the Aboriginal people.
His works are well represented in the Art Gallery of South Australia & the Museum of South Australia.
