Superb quality Japanese four-case Inro, the kinji gold ground with raised & inset continuous scene, unidentified, with two gracious ladies on picnic, seeing off a bare-foot bald-headed Samurai, clutching his sword, a red rug with picnic box, wine bottle and cup stretching around the ‘corner’ of the Inro.
Signed to the base with an inlaid mother-of-pearl plaque with ‘芝山’ (Shibayama), also three characters in gold lacquer “松花齋” (Shokasai).
Edo-Meiji period, mid to late 19th century.
8.5×5.5cm
Condition: small repair to hat inlay on one figure, small flaws, overall good condition. Gold all original with no touch-ups or restoration.
