References | A Victorian artist active from the 1870s, John Sommers studied at the National Gallery of Victoria School. He is known to have had some contact with the artists of the Heidelberg School and frequently painted landscapes in the Victorian coastal areas. He is represented in the National Gallery of Victoria by his portrait of Frederick McCubbin drawn in 1876. |
