Handsome large brass tobacco box, the lid cast with a depiction of a clergyman, titled ‘REVd WILLIAM HUNTINGTON S.S. BORN 1744 / DIED 1813’ , also hand-engraved ownership initials J*H , the sides case with a Regency anthemion twist.

Huntington was an interesting evangelical preacher who caught the imagination of the public in the 1780’s, the S.S. added to his name to stand for ‘sinner saved’. He preached at a number of chapels across London & Sussex, and included royalty in his audience.
