Large bronze basin with Islamic inscriptions, Seljuk period, 13th century

Large bronze Lagan basin, the high lobed rim with a panel of Kufic script to each almost-vertical segment, 14 in total, the base with central engraved flowerhead surrounded by six brass inlaid rings, set within an elaborate knotwork reserve, the outer portion with a rope-twist border and band of stretched lambrequins.

Good condition, small tears to the rim but no major faults and no restoration.
Patination is good, with much original finish & minimal corrosion, very stable.

Provenance: from the collection of a ‘Gentleman Traveller’, purchased last century overseas on his travels.
